HISTORY
On October 27, 1867, the Leisnig railroad station was opened with the Grimma-Leisnig section of the Borsdorf-Döbeln-Meissen Railway
As the reception building bears a strong resemblance to the one in Grimma, it is assumed that it was also designed by Eduard Heuchler.

RESTORATION OF THE RECEPTION HALL
THE RECEPTION HALL
HELP US WITH THE RESTORATION OF THE RECEPTION HALL
For 20 years, the station stood empty, was constantly plagued by vandals and fell more and more into disrepair. We are now putting an end to this. The station should be filled with life again and be a place where people can share their skills, their music and art, and their stories. We want to create a space for what connects us as humans.
Here is a short video to quickly inform you about our project at the station. The video was part of the crowdfunding campaign of the Kulturbahnhof Leisnig e.V., which was successfully completed on 11.11.2021.
We are happy about every further donation.
The railway station is a historic cultural monument and the reception hall is the gateway to the town of Leisnig. The building has stood derelict since its closure in 2000, giving the townscape an unflattering image that does not do justice to this idyllic Saxon town.
The restoration of the historic hall is one of our first steps and is scheduled to begin in October 2021. The station's reception hall will be sustainably refurbished in accordance with the monument protection regulations and, in a cooperation with the city of Leisnig and DB Station und Service, will be used again for its original purpose. It will offer travellers a public space that is also available for artistic projects, including exhibitions, meetings and music events.
Why we need your support and what we plan to do with the donations.
The money we receive through this Startnext campaign is only part of what we need for the complete renovation of the heritage protected reception hall. At the same time, we are still applying for various funding programmes, such as LEADER, KfW and monument funding.
In addition to the funds we have applied for, we have to contribute about € 100,000 of our own. For the restoration of the reception hall, the most important thing is, of course, to renovate and cover the roof as quickly as possible. For this, we need to reach the first target sum of this crowdfunding campaign. Everything we raise beyond that will be used for the other trades.
The money raised will enable us to cover planning, material and labour costs for the following trades:
Roof and roof sheeting work.
Door and window work
Exterior and façade work
Interior finishing and restoration
Fire, noise and heat protection measures
Technical building equipment incl. heating and heating systems
Photovoltaic system

This is what the reception hall could soon look like.
A PUBLIC PLACE OF ENCOUNTER AND EXCHANGE
The original floor (cement tiles) and the historic wooden ceiling are to be made visible and tangible for the public. In addition, a barrier-free access will be made possible by carrying out the planned renovation measures. This will give wheelchair users a shorter and more direct route to platform 1 and enable them to participate in cultural exchange and experience the historic interior design of the building.
The innovative usage concept for the reception hall makes commuters' waiting time more comfortable and pleasurable by giving them a chance to mingle with people and enjoy spontanious music-making and art exhibitions.
